“Spare tire carrier steel cable holding tire under truck broke. Allowing tire to drop onto the pavement. I had a keeper wire through the tire and attached to the frame of vehicule. Potential for serious accident is there for anyone that does not have what I had.”

NHTSA complaint #714973, filed 1999-11

“We can't remember the specifics of when the spare tire fell off. It happened last summer (1998) with about 85,000 miles on the vehicle. We are reporting it now in response to a news report that the NHTSA is currently investigating this particular defect.”

NHTSA complaint #703700, filed 1999-02

“I do not want my name/address used for any reason. I also left off my VIN #. Air conditioner controls/compressor failed or broke soon after warranty ran out. The A/C never did really blow very cold, but I was told this was normal. I certainly hope you recall these trucks and help us with the A/C problems, soon. Also the universal joints have failed twice. (the truck is fuel injected, I left that part off.) thank you for your time and attention.”

NHTSA complaint #700354, filed 1998-11

“Consumer was driving at approximately 65 MPH when spare tire under vehicle came loose, and tire flew out from underneath truck, and flew over vehicle behind him. Spare tire came loose due to retainer clip that holds spare tire in place broke. Please provide any additional information/attachments.”

NHTSA complaint #887006, filed 2001-04

“Abs brakes; when applying the brakes normally in wet weather, the pedal went to the floor and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle, causing an accident. Master cylinder had been replaced due to it leaking. Fuse for horn and interior lights kept blowing. Air conditioer was not blowing cold. Battery had a bad cell, causing vehicle to not start.”
