Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“While driving one day, I noticed the tow/haul button didn't work, then the gas gauge. Eventually, within a year, all the gauges stopped working. Sometimes they go on and later off again. I don't know if they are even accurate to any degree when they do come on. About a year ago the truck shut off while I was driving but after I was safely off the road it started again. That has not happened since. I have tried to find the problem but as of now I have been unsuccessful. Myself or my mechanic, who works for the county and is very capable. …”

NHTSA complaint #10641300, filed 2014-10, 155,000 miles

“'the pads rusted to the rotors, destroying the rotors. I had to have all the rotors and pads replaced. Since then have had to replace the pads and rotors two more times. I've also had to replace the rear calipers and the backing plates at less than 100,000 miles. I've had to replace the ABS sensors and grease boot s on the front axels. Replaced the universal joint, the four wheel drive switches twice, the power window mechanisms, the tail gate straps and the lever--which isn't working right again, the gas tank strap, rusty fuel lines and brake lines, and the differential cover that rusted out. …”

NHTSA complaint #10575722, filed 2014-03, 12,000 miles

“Both of the windows in my 2000 chevy silverado will not work. This could result in failure to be able to exit the vehicle in case of an emergency. And the tailgate will not stay up.”

NHTSA complaint #10347445, filed 2010-08

“The contact owns a 1995 N/A Chevrolet GMT-400. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 03V159000 (VISIBILITY); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.”
