“The driver's side AC randomly starts blowing hot air while we are driving along in our 2004 silverado which started about 2 years ago at about 80k miles. In order to get the AC back, we have to pull over and turnoff the engine and then start it back up. Some days it never does it, sometimes several times and usually on the freeway but sometimes on city streets too. This is in addition to the speedometer, and other instrument panel issues that have had to be repaired over the last 2-3 years (after the warranty expired).”
NHTSA complaint #10400875, filed 2011-05, 80,000 miles“I bought my 2004 used with 116,159 miles on it. I noticed the blower motor for the A/C and heater would act up on its own and thought it was just the auto climate control it has. I smelled electrical wiring burning at different times but could not find anything burnt in the wiring after inspecting the wiring under the dash and hood. On feb. 25,2014 I went to the grocery store and when I shut my suburban off the blower motor stayed on. I tried turn the key on and off but the motor stayed on. I went in the store and when I came out 1/2 hour later the blower motor was still running. …”
NHTSA complaint #10566480, filed 2014-02, 116,159 miles“February 20, 2010 I smelled a burning electrical smell. After a quick look under the dash on the passenger side I found smoldering wires from the wiring harness that is attached to the heater fan. The wires run from the heater fan motor to the resistor. The resistor is also damaged. The wires had to be replaced as well as the resistor. The parts dealer said that this part frequently must be replaced on this model truck and they keep at least 30 in stock just for this reason. This vehicle only has 63,575 miles on it. …”
NHTSA complaint #10314836, filed 2010-02, 63,575 miles“Problem 1.the plug that controls the blower motor in my 2004 Chevrolet silverado melted and started smoking. I replaced it and 3 months later it is now happening again. Without the use of the blower motor I can not use the heat,AC or window defogger. This truck has less than 50,000 miles on it. When I search online I see that many others have the same problem. Their plugs have melted and in some cases have also started fires. Not having a window defogger is very dangerous. Problem 2. The heater blend door actuator has stopped working. …”
NHTSA complaint #10377931, filed 2011-01, 44,000 miles“A month or two ago the heating system stayed blowing while in off position and even while the car was turned off, kept killing the battery so it had to be disconnected. Rear window will roll down at start up. Radio will squeal at start up and had to be turned on or off from the center console. This week the air bag light came on and check tire. Periodically the service stability light will blink on. Today the wipers will not turn off. Very worried that it will accelerate, catch fire or shut off while driving. We have an apt for repair on monday. …”
