“My wife and I had just gotten into the truck. When I started it and put it in drive, a very loud explosion occurred. My wife had already fastened her seat belt but I (driver) had not. She thought that she had been shot. Both seat belt pretensioners had exploded. The airbag light came on as did the emergency flashers. Both seat belts are inoperable.”

NHTSA complaint #11298465, filed 2020-01, 98,000 miles

“Drivers seat belt latch broke. Could not latch seat belt before driving. Upon inspection, can see something in the latch is broken, as it looks different from the other latches. I can usually get it to latch by pressing the release button while inserting the tab portion and jiggling, etc. This takes from a few seconds to a few minutes, and is quite frustrating. Also, I am unsure as to how secure the latch mechanism is now.”

NHTSA complaint #10991184, filed 2017-05, 36,500 miles

“Moving my truck from the back yard to the front yard, traveling less than 3 MPH, no one on the passenger side. The passenger side air bag deployed first and then about 2 seconds later the drivers side airbag deployed. The chevy emblem on the steering wheel embedded itself into my right hand nearly breaking my thumb. After coming to stop, I noticed the seat belt pretensioners on both sides had also been deployed and they are now locked up tight. The truck did not hit anything. …”

NHTSA complaint #10695507, filed 2015-03, 68,000 miles

“I work for the missouri department of natural resources. We own a 2007 chevy silverado. While this vehicle was sitting, parked, with the ignition off, the seat belt retractor unit unexpectedly exploded causing both seatbelts to instantly retract and lock up. There were no injuries, but one of our staff was standing directly next to the truck with the door open when this happened. He said the loud explosion sounded like a gunshot.”

NHTSA complaint #10269031, filed 2009-05, 39,240 miles

“1) seatbelt female receptacle will not accept male seatbelt connector due to broken plastic in receptacle on rear passenger and rear center seatbelt. 2) driver seatbelt sometimes does not lock until trying several times and releases during driving after apparently locked”
