Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The dash on my 2008 silverado is cracked. The crack is located at the airbag on the passenger side. The crack is located at the top left side of the airbag opening. I am afraid that if the airbag is deployed the cracked dash will become shrapnel and kill, or seriously injure people in the cab of the truck.”

NHTSA complaint #10825457, filed 2016-02, 84,000 miles

“A battery icon comes on my dash with a message about the battery charging system needs to be serviced. It does not matter if the vehicle is stationary or driving this comes on for long enough to read then goes off. The tires pressure sensor is giving a messages as well about needing servicing. The driver's seatbelt latch has stopped allowing the clip to enter I was parked at the time this happened. I have since then tried to spray white lithium to get it moving since I did not have wd40.there was no success. I still have not been able to get the airbag recall fixed.”

NHTSA complaint #11373604, filed 2020-11, 180,000 miles

“There was an explosion and seat belts tightened up,the deployer for air bags went off, luckily the air bags didn't go off or I would have been in an accident. I complained to GM because there was a call back in 2010 of faulty sensors getting corroded because they are located in a damp area. Gm stated that they were no longer responsible because it was over five years old and over 100,000 miles. But my concern is how dangerous this is when you are just driving down the street and they go off causing a accident. …”

NHTSA complaint #10725181, filed 2015-06, 104,300 miles

“I was driving at a speed of approximately 45 MPH when a driver, who was cited for failing to yield to the right of way, entered the roadway from my left. The initial impact was my truck's front to the passenger side of the vehicle that entered the roadway. After both vehicles separated, my vehicle continued and struck a median guardrail head-on (another frontal impact) before coming to rest. My seatbelt did not lock and no airbags deployed. The highway patrol investigated the active collision scene. …”

NHTSA complaint #10376330, filed 2011-01, 21,650 miles

“Seat belt on driver and passenger sides will not lock any longer. They have worn out and broke. This seems very similar to the 2007 recall that happened. This is a 2008 truck.”
