Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Batteries being drawn down from a parasitic draw. Tailgate won’t operate from outside the truck and infotainment system malfunctioning also lights flashing periodically. This is the second time in about a month this has happened. The first time the dealer said I had bad batteries so I replaced both of them with Napa batteries. Waiting to hear from the dealer now on the findings this time.”

NHTSA complaint #11729142, filed 2026-04

“I kept getting “check trailer wiring” messages followed by a “trailer disconnected” message while towing a trailer and the trailer brakes would not engage. The trailer would “reconnect” and then “disconnect” constantly while driving. I lost my trailer brakes while trying to brake down a hill. Not having working trailer brakes is extremely dangerous.”

NHTSA complaint #11549810, filed 2023-10

“When pulling trailers I frequently get warning to check trailer wiring. I have gotten this warning with every trailer I have towed to include, my travel trailer(camper), livestock trailer, car hauler trailer and enclosed cargo trailer. It is intermittent but frequent. I am unsure if trailer brakes will engage during this failure.”

NHTSA complaint #11599325, filed 2024-07

“Driving down the highway at 60mph, dash started blinking for trailer brake service needed. Was not trailering anything. Within 3 seconds I had smoke filling the cab, pulled over and got out. Within 3min truck was fully engulfed totally gone. God forbid I was alone but even at that I did not have time to get many things out and keep imagining what a different day I’d be looking at if there were kids with me.”

NHTSA complaint #11745837, filed 2026-06

“Instrument cluster stopped working, I have no speed or fuel remaining indicators. Dealer completed software recall work which did not fix the issue. Replacement is on back order so I am unable to drive the vehicle for an unknown amount of time.”
