“The motor on a my 2.7l 2000 Chrysler contour rod bearings went out ruining the motor. The repair would be 3,000. I did not know it was a known incident with these motors that Chrysler uses in this model. The motor went out on a camping trip 180 miles away from home. I left the car at a shop and am currently donating it to charity.”

NHTSA complaint #10346513, filed 2010-07, 120,000 miles

“The car was idling for about 20minutes, then it started to idle up quite high then bog down low, after that I turned the ignition off, waited for my husband. Got the car to his fathers house, barely, then took it to where we bought it from. Then it died and won't start back up. The car only has 105,000 miles on it. Engine is completly gone.”

NHTSA complaint #10110531, filed 2005-02, 105,800 miles

“As other complaints indicate, my oil light started coming on at <700 rpms, car maintenance schedule maintained as instructed, car has 137,000 miles and owe more than its worth now. Can't afford new car, can't afford to pay to replace engine, other complaints indicate sludge problem, I'm taking to mechanic this afternoon, and expect to be told the same thing.”

NHTSA complaint #10116920, filed 2005-04, 135,000 miles

“I have a 2000 Chrysler Concorde with a 2.7 engine, the vehicle is in perfect condion and the motor just started knocking, this is a common problem I'm told, I have a 114000 miles but it looks like 30000 miles.. Now I can't find a 2.7 dohc motor for it because of all the problems with this engine, the prices are $3500.00 for a new block installed....dodge and Chrysler know they have a problem with it why isn't something being done? I need help”

NHTSA complaint #10322471, filed 2010-03, 106,898 miles

“There were no events leading to the failure everything was fine until I heard the engine knocking and then I took it straight to a dealer to have them look at it where it was then discovered the engine had been blown due to a bearing breaking. The garage said that it wasn't worth rebuilding the engine and would be better off buying a new engine which I couldn't afford due to me being a college student.”
