“Serpentine belt comes off every time that is raining hard. I took it to the mechanic and he change the tensioner and the belt without improvement. When this comes off the vehicle dies which will cause an accident because I have no control over it. So far me and my wife are been lucky.”

NHTSA complaint #10193307, filed 2007-06, 91,504 miles

“Complaint involves a 2000 Chrysler town & country ltd awd minvan 3.8l engine. During its annual safety inspection, my mechanic discovered the flywheel was cracked. I had brought the vehicle in to a) have it inspected b) check a metallic noise the engine had when the A/C was on. Vehicle passed the safety inspection, however he informed me the flywheel was cracked and should not be driven until fixed. …”

NHTSA complaint #10164360, filed 2006-08, 141,500 miles

“(1) I own a 2000 Chrysler town & country (with less than 70,000 miles) which I purchased only five months ago. While on vacation far from home, the transmission started whining loudly and shifting roughly. (2) I had the vehicle checked by two different mechanics who both informed me that the transmission was failing. (3) the transmission had to be replaced completely at a cost to me of approximately $2800.”

NHTSA complaint #10129393, filed 2005-07, 68,000 miles

“2000 Chrysler town & country minivan. Purchased used with 39000 miles, 11 months and 9k miles later, with only 47000 miles on the minivan I had to replace the transmission. Chrysler refused to pay and stated it was not part of any recall. I have since sold this minivan, but still feel Chrysler hasa problem transmission and should repay me for the transmission and my rental car I had to use.”

NHTSA complaint #10082938, filed 2004-07, 47,000 miles

“2000 Chrysler Town And Country with 54,000 the differential pin went through the transmission case. Fortunately, I was only going 5 MPH and only had another 50 feet to drive. I mainly drive highway with my toddler and I am fearful of what could have happened had we been on the highway during our normal commute. My husband was a mechanic for 19 plus years and was able to quickly determine the problem. It is my understanding from experienced mechanics and Chrysler certified mechanics that this is a common issue with the vehicle and it a defect in manufacturing the transmission. …”
