“I was driving down the street and when I went to press the brake to slow down my transmission locked up and the car stalled right in the middle of traffic. The vehicle is in safe mode and is stuck in 2nd gear. I have heard alot about this issue and was wondering about a recall that would relate to the issue. I have 3 children and we could have been hurt badly.”
NHTSA complaint #10278819, filed 2009-07, 87,137 miles“My wife was killed when the gear shift engaged while she was putting groceries in the back of her van in the stores parking lot. There were no witnesses. Florida state high patrol at the scene pieced together the likely events. When the car started rolling backward, she may have reached in the driver's side door to stop it. The door may have knocked her under the car, killing her instantly. This was reported to Chrysler in 2014. I raise it again because of recent problems with gear shifts in later Chrysler models. ... NHTSA complaint #10884487, filed 2016-07, 75,000 miles“My 2001 Chrysler town & country suffered a complete transmission failure. I bought this vehicle new in 2001 and thought I was buying the best mini-van for the money. However, I've had nothing but problems with this vehicle. Power windows have failed, power sliding door has failed 3 times, power lift gate failed, air bags caused a check engine light to come on ( replaced under warranty). All of these were minor in comparison to the transmission, which cost me $3078 to have rebuilt. …”
NHTSA complaint #10259761, filed 2009-02, 81,000 miles“My 2001 Chrysler t&c ex only has 52,000 miles on it. I do not tow or haul any heavy material with it, but yet I need a new tranmission costing $3,200.00. The check engine light came on and the next day it failed. I took it back to the dealer and was informed that 5 seperate things were wrong with the transmission. Since I was over the 36,000 miles it was not covered under warranty. …”
NHTSA complaint #10049678, filed 2003-12, 52,600 miles“At 50,000 miles my transmission went and chrylser will do nothing to help. A transmission sholud not go at this mileage. I was with my two little kids on a highway and we were lucky we didn't get killed. Not only did chrylser refuse to help, I was treated so horribly by thier customer service person, I was astounded. Chysler obviously has big transmissions problems and they can't possibly help all of us. They lost my vote.”
