“I was filling up my gas tank when the car started spitting out gas at me. Luckily I stopped it fast enough but had some gas on me and all over the side of my car. I've looked this up and it seems to be a big problem with the durangos. I really would like to fill my car up without worrying about being covered in gas or my car starting to rust.”

NHTSA complaint #10667452, filed 2014-12, 116,100 miles

“My vehicle stalls in the rain. It stalls at a stop or rolling speeds. It idles rough first and then stalls or shuts off. Sometimes the check engine light will come on, but not always. This only occurs in the rain. I've had several mechanics look at it, and they can't figure out how to solve the problem. I've spent a lot of money trying to get this fixed. Through online research, I've discovered that many other Durango owners are experiencing this same issue.”

NHTSA complaint #11129432, filed 2018-09, 160,000 miles

“Fuel tank has a problem on top it rust out & the vehicle will not pass a emission test. To pass you have replace the tank &the fuel pump.a cost of $2200 . I called chrysler they said to bad. They said there are no problems. I saw (4 durangos) that have this problem. My whole thing is they will replace a engine on a police vehicle with 150000 mi on them but forget the gas tank. That is a real problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10483192, filed 2012-11, 103,000 miles

“I have read Dodge is aware of this issue, and no one has done anything to protect the consumer. The gas tank does not fill and spits fuel out when about 2/3 full. Also the tank is collapsing do to the pressure that builds up. This is a big safety concern that needs some kind of action taken. People need to stop turning their heads away from these problems. I have taken this to a mechanic who has stated this is a real concern. We researched this to find out no one is owning up to a poor design. And a major safety issue. Not sure why, just have no words. …”

NHTSA complaint #11065463, filed 2018-01, 49,000 miles

“Fuel gauge system is unreliable... Dealer has told me nothing can be done... I can never know how much fuel is in the system.. As the vehicle runs there is a pressure change in the fuel tank, which causes the system to be faulty and fails to provide accuraate details concerning fuel level this has been a problem since I purchased this vehicle , new from the Dodge dealer”
