“Repeated 'misfire in cylinder 2' error code - from what i've seen online, this may mean that coolant is leaking into the engine block and can cause total engine failure. about 77,000 miles currently. Will be taking to dealership in a couple days, as it's a repeated issue and the dealership staff member we talked to said i shouldn't be driving the car, which we just bought in March 2021 from a used car Ford dealership.”
NHTSA complaint #11422448, filed 2021-06“Car started to misfire and engine light came on. I took it to the autobody shop and was told I have coolant leakibg unto the combustion chamber and my car needs a new engine!”
NHTSA complaint #11575303, filed 2024-03“Last July my check engine light came on giving us a P0302 code. We had the spark plugs changed. It went away for a week then came back on with the same code. We had the coil packs changed. Same thing. Went away for a week then returned. Now dealership is saying they want $9,000+ to replace time engine for an issue that has been known to Ford since 2010 with this engine.with less than 70,000 miles on it, white smoke is pouring out of my car, the engine is overheating and coolant is leaking. I’m told that this can cause a fire or worse, a wreck. …”
NHTSA complaint #11550739, filed 2023-10“2018 Ford Edge purched certified pre-owned in Novemeber 2023. In February, engine light displayed after diagnostic was ran, we were told that there is a coolant intrusion and we would need to replace the entire engine, approximately $8k. Ford Autonation, Valencia and Ford customer service directed us to contact you so we can report the coolant issue which is a known recall for Ford Edge. The VIN number doesn't fall within the recalled models, but since our vehicle is having the same issue, Ford told us to report this issue to you so that the VIN or Factory can be included in the recall. …”
NHTSA complaint #11577791, filed 2024-03“First indication of an issue was when the check engine light illuminated (2/1/2024). I took car to an independent repair shop who identified the codes as PO304 - misfire cylinder 4 and P0316 - misfire on start up. Borescope revealed coolant leaking thru #4 cylinder wall & cylinder #1 showing stream of coolant from cylinder head gasket. Ford TSB recommends long block engine replacement due to coolant intrusion in the engine. The car remained parked from 2/2/24 to 3/13/2024. 3/13/2024. On 3/13 I took the car to the local Ford dealership whose service department confirmed the original diagnosis. …”
