“Purchased my 2020 Ford Escape brand new. Since owning it I have repaired/replaced the shocks and struts 3 times. They continue to leak. The car has not been used to carry heavy items or tow etc. Car is kept in a garage year round.”

NHTSA complaint #11726416, filed 2026-03

“My car has only 50,000 miles on it. I took it to the dealership for an oil change, and they reported that the rear suspension shocks are leaking. I was only two months out of warranty at this moment.”

NHTSA complaint #11598410, filed 2024-07

“I bought the car in February, 2021. 11 months later the rear shocks had both failed and were replaced by dealer on 01/13/2022, at 9572 miles. One year later the shocks have again failed! Ford has refused to cover them under warranty, claiming that shock failure in one year is normal wear. This is a severe safety issue that affects vehicle handling and it needs to be addressed.”

NHTSA complaint #11523834, filed 2023-05

“The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact became aware that there was fluid underneath the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the rear shocks were leaking and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that approximately 20,000 miles later, while receiving a routine inspection, the dealer informed the contact that the rear shocks were leaking again and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the failure was not covered under recall. …”

NHTSA complaint #11653493, filed 2025-04, 20,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 20–40 MPH, the vehicle was vibrating abnormally. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the vehicle was working as designed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who completed a test drive and informed the contact that the vehicle was in ECO Mode and recommended driving the vehicle in SPORT Mode. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 18,000.”
