“The approximate date above is the first time my Excursion blew out a spark plug while on a family trip in pa. Since then, it has blown 2 more in separate instances, the most recent being on the highway this past sunday. The first incident I was towing and putting more strain on the engine, but the 2nd and 3rd incidents no towing was involved. I have read about and several mechanics have also told me the Ford triton engines are known for this problem. It seems Ford should do the right thing and fix the problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10515022, filed 2013-06, 107,000 miles

“On sept. 29,2014i approached stop light and applied brakes, engine RPM increased very high and brakes would not hold vehicle - had to put it in neutral and engine RPM continue to go higher - this lasted for about 10 seconds before engine went back to idle speed then we proceeded home with no more problems. This has done this several times before and each time brakes would not hold vehicle back. I took it to Ford in 2013 and explained it to them and they said to put gas stabilizer in tank as the gas in tank was condensing and causing the computer to malfunction. …”

NHTSA complaint #10641467, filed 2014-10, 55,547 miles

“Smelled diesel fuel like odor when I opened the hood at home, but I did not see any problem. Traveled to work (15 miles) and left a pool of diesel in the parking lot. Fuel was streaming from behind the oil pan. Idiot smoking threw a cigarette in the fuel and managed to start a small fire that I extinguished with an extinguisher from work before it burned the truck. I opened the message boards at home and it turns out that all of the diesel excursions are affected. A bracket is rubbing the passenger side fuel line and wears through causing fuel to pour out over the hot motor and header. …”

NHTSA complaint #10296562, filed 2009-12, 79,500 miles

“After purchasing my 2001 Excursion with power stroke diesel I had problems with a hunting and sometimes surging when starting the engine. After two trips to the dealer and them stationing that there was no problem, the vehicle shut down while driving three days later. Luckily I wasn't in traffic I was just getting ready to pull out onto the road. After having it towed to a different dealer (due to location) I was informed that the cam pick-up sensor was bad and there was a service bulletin on this. I returned about two days later complaining that the hunting and surging was still present. …”

NHTSA complaint #10050853, filed 2003-12, 39,121 miles

“The vehicle had ongoing problems with the transmission, brakes, and air tire. While driving a noise was heard coming from the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice, and the problem could not be determined.”
