“Windshield wiper motor on my 2000 Ford f250 truck was replaced (supposedly)by Ford in 2002 due to a recall. Here is the NHTSA reference: NHTSA campaign id: 01v258000 on 12/27/04, my vehicle had an electrical fire/burn/meltdown caused by the wipers not being able to return to the, park position by snow and ice. The wipers were in the, off position however. Damage to the wiper motor assembly and the supplying wiring harness were evident, along with the distinct electrical burn smell throughout the vehicle( which is still present several days after initial incident). …”

NHTSA complaint #10104791, filed 2004-12, 48,000 miles

“I was driving my 2000 f-250 7.8 diese at approx. 5 MPH. It was snowing outside. I had my wipers on. The wipers became stuck and then my truck began to fill with smoke. I attempted to turn the wipers offs. The wipers would not shut off. I turned the truck and then restarted it. The wipers stopped for a minute then continued to faster. I also saw flames coming from the hood area. My wipers no longer function and I there is strong odor of burnt electrical wiring in the truck. I called Ford about this problem and they said my truck was not part of the recall and they were not responsible.”

NHTSA complaint #10108325, filed 2005-01, 62,234 miles

“Occasional engine stall when windshield wiper is turned on or on intermittent setting. Occasional stalls when steering is turned quickly left to start turning from standing position at intersections. Ford service department was unable to find cause or make corrections.”

NHTSA complaint #10181327, filed 2007-02, 10,000 miles

“On nearly every f250/350 super duty I have seen in wy, there developes a crack in the windshield side to side about 5 inches up from the bottom, where the defroster hits. As many as I have seen, this seems to be a engineering or windshield defect. Are there other reports of this?”

NHTSA complaint #738098, filed 2000-12

“The contact owns a 2000 Ford f250 super duty. While driving 70 MPH, the contact activated the windshield wipers and they eventually stopped working in the middle of the windshield. The wipers have not worked since that time. The dealer stated that his VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 01v258000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer:motor). The purchase date and dealer information were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 103,000.”
