“Spark plug blew out of motor I am the original owner of my truck. I have always had the Ford dealership perform the tune-ups because I am aware of the ongoing problems with the Ford 5.4 engine and spark plugs. I had my daughter in the truck with me at the time of the spark plug coming out and catching on fire. This is completely un-acceptable, Ford motor company obviously knows about the problem. But nothing has been done to correct the problem. I am extremely upset about the dangerous situation this put me and my family in. …”

NHTSA complaint #10629506, filed 2014-08, 195,215 miles

“While driving my 2000 f-250 Ford pick up truck equiped with the 7.3 liter diesel engine, the engine suddenly stopped running, without any warning signs. This occured while I was entering a circle intersection, fortunately very early in the morning before any rush hour traffic. When the engine shut down I lost both the power steering and the power braking systems. I was starting my turn to enter the circle and at first thought that I had a front flat tire as the vehicle barely responded to my efforts to gradually turn to the right. …”

NHTSA complaint #10164722, filed 2006-08, 78,250 miles

“Pulling out of a parking lot and the strap that holds the gas tank broke (rusted through) and the gas tank fell onto the road surface. The tank was almost full at the time of the incident.”

NHTSA complaint #10621750, filed 2014-08, 118,000 miles

“2000 Ford f250, 7.3 diesel, fuel leak from plastic drain valve on the main fuel filter. Leaving a trail of fuel along the road. And under carriage of the truck losing about 4-6 gallons of fuel. Nothing has been done so far. Other than contacting Ford. Filter drain valve, on top of the engine, needs to be replaced. This had the potential of fire, causing serious injury as well as damage to the truck, and environmental safety.”

NHTSA complaint #10174852, filed 2006-12, 47,311 miles

“The contact owns a 2000 Ford f-250 super duty. While driving 40 MPH, the contact heard an abnormal thumping noise and noticed that the fuel tank had detached and was dragging on the road. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The fire and police departments were on the scene. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 165,000. The rear strap securing the gas tank failed.”
