“Today, I experienced a fuel leak while driving down the road that emptied about 10+ gallons of diesel fuel all over the top of my engine and on the roads. The truck has been dropped off at the Ford dealer (koons Ford, falls church va) on 6 march 2020 for investigation. Truck leaked fuel over hot engine parts and all over the roads making the roads a dangerous place for other drivers.”
NHTSA complaint #11316668, filed 2020-03, 16,200 miles“While driving on interstate 20, eastbound, my low fuel pressure indicator light came on. I started losing power and we pulled off at the exit that was there. As soon as we stopped, the engine bay was on fire. It gave no indication of odd smells or problems.it seemed to burn the engine compartment completely, all the electrical systems, interior, possibly firewall, etc. It seems this is possibly a known problem.”
NHTSA complaint #11202804, filed 2019-04, 65,000 miles“We (my wife and I) were coming back from louisiana to houston, texas on a 4 hour road trip. We were on I-610 in houston when we started to smell diesel. I looked down at my fuel gauge and saw the miles to empty dropping rapidly, so I slowed down on I-610 and started taking the exit ramp to investigate the issue. As we entered the exit ramp, the back end of my truck started sliding and did a full circle until my back bumper hit the exit ramp guard rail. Luckily, the cars behind us were far enough back that we did not get hit or severely injured. …”
NHTSA complaint #11195546, filed 2019-04, 32,000 miles“While driving about 30 MPH on mountain road at cade's cove tn. The engine shut off , no indication before hand. All small icon showed on dash including battery. Just made it to the other side of road pull off area or other wise I would have been in center of road. No power steering. Turner key off and waited about 1 minute. Turned key on and engine started up. Was able to return to our campground. This could have been a very serious safety / accident as this mountain road is very narrow and many turns going back to gatlinburg tn. From cade's cove.”
NHTSA complaint #11154034, filed 2018-11, 33,490 miles“With no notice the truck cut off at a busy intersection and would not restart. Because of the location the police ordered a tow to move it quickly. Later roadside assistance towed it to the dealer who informed me the fuel pump was bad but they required more through work to quote it all. It ended up the whole high pressure fuel system had to be replaced as well as the fuel injectors. Ford claimed it was due to water contamenated fuel however my insurance sent a sample pulled from the truck and found only metals consistent with the material found in the fuel system but no water. …”
