Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“99 f-250 diesel stalls on freeway. Replaced the recalled cam shaft sensor but still stalls. I was told that the accelerator position sensor could be the problem and many other consumers are having the same problem. The cam shaft sensor was recalled due to stalling and causing possible injury accidents and this should be recalled for the same reason. My family is in danger while driving this truck. Ford knows about this problem and said there is nothing they can do about it. I suppose they are waiting for enough people to die from this problem for it to be resolved. …”

NHTSA complaint #10275023, filed 2009-06, 230,000 miles

“I have a 1999 Ford super duty pickup. I was driving home after my sons baseball practice and the unthinkable happened. My truck made a loud bang and noticed a burning smell. I stopped to see what the problem with my truck. As I opened the hood I saw a flash of light and saw the engine on fire. I immediately shut the truck off and grabbed my sons water bottle to try to stop the fire. Luckily I was able to smother the fire out with a baseball glove. My son and I waited for over an hour for the tow truck. The vehicle was towed to a local garage. I was shocked to find out the repair bill of $2700! …”

NHTSA complaint #10275129, filed 2009-06, 89,227 miles

“1999 Ford 250 super duty (no included in current recall) front fuel tank strap failed (broke), rear strap very close to breaking, plastic fuel tank dropped approximately 6 when front strap failed. Had rear failed as well, tank would have dropped to the ground, with likely accident/fire. I have replaced both fuel tank straps, rear broke on removal.”

NHTSA complaint #10417029, filed 2011-08, 78,870 miles

“Diesel fuel tank fell down because of rusted tank straps and leaked 30 gallons of fuel onto roadside. 13 yards of soil had to be abated from the contaminated site.”

NHTSA complaint #10631865, filed 2014-09, 219,800 miles

“The emergency brake cable was routed incorrectly, which caused it to rub against the left rear tire, and becoming completely exposed. Dealer diagnosed the retainer bracket was not installed and corrected. Dealer service dept. Then routed cable under the left rear leaf spring which was rubbing the cable again, and caused exposure. . The fuel gauge sender was replaced.”
