“At 85000 miles of very light use my f250 hd model year 2000 with diesel engine had a transmission failure and had to be replaced. If this truck is referred to as a super duty and heavily advertised as such a strong truck why would my transmission fail. Again this truck is used more like a car then a construction vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10168308, filed 2006-09, 85,300 miles

“While driving to work on october 7, 2009 I had a spark plug blow out of cylinder #3 of my 2000 Ford super duty v-10. This cost me $125 dollars of towing, and $350.00 in repair. I pulled over immediately to reduce the chance of anymore damage to the vehicle. I don't know what happened to the spark plug after hearing it bouncing under the vehicle. Hopefully it didn't cause any damage to other vehicles on the freeway at the time.”

NHTSA complaint #10286739, filed 2009-10, 128,000 miles

“The blowing out of spark plug on 2000 f-250. I was leaving walmart parking lot when I heard a loud noise coming from the motor, I stop opened the hood and saw the spark plug laying on top of the motor.”

NHTSA complaint #10274548, filed 2009-06, 178,000 miles

“I have replaced the transmission 3 times since I bought the vehicle in march of 2000. Now it is out of warranty and needs another transmission the last transmission was put in(october 2002)they said they would warranty the transmission for one year but now they don't want to do it because it has an after market suspension lift and bigger tires (it's been on there since they put the first transmission in and they performed warranty work on it then).”

NHTSA complaint #10019145, filed 2003-05, 41,000 miles

“Repeated manual transmission failure. Ford replaced my manual transmission on my 2000 f250 under warranty, with about 35,000 miles on it. The transmission again failed with about 84,000 miles on the truck, 49,000 on the transmission, and $4,000 out of my pocket. This truck is well maintained and rarely operated with a load. A second complaint is that I have now taken my truck in for the 100,000 tune up. The dealer informed me the spare tire fell off because the cable holding it broke. The spare tire has never been removed from the truck. …”
