“I own a 2002 f250, 4x4, four door, off-road package, camper package, tow package, v-10, automatic tranny. When I first start the vehicle and place it in reverse, after about three seconds, I hear a loud thump . Noise comes from a little right of center and in front of the dash. Dealer cannot duplicate. Problem happens about once every thirty starts. This started happening within a month of buying the vehicle new.”

NHTSA complaint #10233321, filed 2008-07, 83,000 miles

“2002 Ford f-250 crew cab - transmission temperature gauge always registers hot, even if the truck has been sitting over night. Ford service bulletins says this is normal. If this is normal, what is the purpose of the gauge on the dash? How can I tell if my transmission is over heating when hauling a heavy load? The gauge is not reliable. Ford tells me the gauge will register if the transmission begins to over heat. Well it's registering even when the transmission is cold from sitting over night! How can I rely on this??? …”

NHTSA complaint #10010315, filed 2003-03, 3 miles

“4x4 auto locking hubs will not lock in four wheel drive when activated. This problem is being experienced by tons of people, just check the internet and you will see. This a dangerous situation if you are pulling up a incline and try to shift to four wheel drive you will be left without it.”

“When pulling away from stop at a red light, truck hesitated, then engine just died. Waited a moment, then restarted engine and it did the same thing.
