Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“My 2002 Ford f250 diesel truck shimmies terribly periodically. I never know when it will start, but when it does it gets violent and I have to slow down to almost a stop. I am getting more and more apprehensive about driving it, and especially pulling my horse trailer with it. I have had several people look at it to see if anything seemed out of place. They always report they do not see anything. I have noticed on line that there have been several off.”

NHTSA complaint #10324116, filed 2010-04, 166,000 miles

“36,800 miles went for an inspection sticker and it failed for both upper and lower ball joints on both sides. They are very bad, well over an inch of clunk each way. Not noticeable driving. This is just a pleasure vehicle, light use and easy driving....very well kept truck for personal family use.”

NHTSA complaint #10135436, filed 2005-09, 36,800 miles

“Vehicle had problems with the brakes. The brake rotors warped every 20,000 miles. It was also discovered that the ball joints were loose when the vehicle was being repaired. Provide further details. Mechanic also found that lower ball joints where loose.”

NHTSA complaint #10064775, filed 2004-04, 43,000 miles

“2 failures of stabilizer end link on 2002 f250 4x4 supercrew lariat one has torn boot on lower knuckle (passenger). Second failure 4 months later, boot was in tack lower knuckle driver side.”

NHTSA complaint #10109873, filed 2005-02, 54,000 miles

“Dt: when towing a 5th wheel trailer 27 feet and 7,900 lbs on consumer's Ford f250 super duty, there was a problem with that much weight on the back the truck. It seemed to pull to the left and sometimes pulls to the right, then will quit and pull to the other side. This alternated in nature. Also, consumer noted this occurred without 5th wheel trailer or without any tow at all. It seemed as though there were 4 low tires. Consumer first thought the problem were the tires, and had all 4 tires replaced. But is a problem recurred. Was not taken to dealer for this problem. …”
