“When the vehicle reached approx. 25,000 miles, the drivers side door started to make a knocking sound. The sound travels and may seem to be coming from anywhere in the general area of the door and door frame. I was able to pinpoint the noise to be originating from the nader pin or latching device. A little bit of lithium grease seemed to solve the problem for a while, but now the vehicle has 45,000 miles and the noise is getting worse. After talking with several people that own the same vehicle, I found that they all have the same problem. …”
NHTSA complaint #10050875, filed 2003-12, 25,000 miles“Over the last 2 months, the generic electronic module (gem) has shown signs of failure. First the door locks would randomly lock and unlock while the vehicle was in motion. Finally, the door locks stopped working all together, the dome light will not automatically turn on and the door ajar indicator stays illuminated. The reno Ford dealer would not return phone calls to schedule a repair. The pickup truck remains unrepaired.”
NHTSA complaint #10183044, filed 2007-02, 51,500 miles“The vehicle is dependent upon a vehicle security module to open doors, show if doors are open or closed, automatically lock and unlock doors, turn on and off lights, etc. The unit installed in my vehicle has been replaced by another unit by Ford. Ford has not recalled this device. Many owners have reported and have had to replace these devices because of the problems with locks not working (open and close), headlights not working or turning off while driving, false safety indications being displayed, etc. …”
NHTSA complaint #10348514, filed 2010-08, 133,000 miles“Inside door lock(4 door 2002 Ford f250 pickup) control button(drivers side) does not open locks. Only the remote keyless entry will open them from the inside.”
