“Unattended tailgate. Tail gate opens on its own after safety recall was preformed. Dealer can't reproduce issue. Tail gate opens randomly. My tail gate is damaged. Ford refusing to solve issue. I read an article about your agency having same complaints after recall was performed. It seems to happen right when I start the truck and put into drive or reverse.”

NHTSA complaint #11405028, filed 2021-03, 15,500 miles

“Had tailgate recall done in february 2020. Tailgate continues to open on its own. Dealer can't find the problem. Recent incident 11/9/2020 tailgate opened twice while on road and damaged 5th wheel camper cargo door. Vehicle at dealer 3 days couldn't get tailgate to repeat incident. Advised nothing they can do. Prior to leaving dealer tailgate wouldn't open. Recall fix has not worked. I searched internet and found numerous others who are having same problem.”

NHTSA complaint #11374349, filed 2020-11, 28,000 miles

“When I left work my tailgate was closed and had not been opened for several days. When I got home, my tailgate was open and all my tools had fallen out of the truck. My truck was serviced 2 years ago for this type of issue. The repair needed to be done twice as the first time my tailgate would no longer open at all.”

NHTSA complaint #11451259, filed 2022-02

“I had the recall for the unintended tailgate opening fixed at the dealer in July of 2020. However on multiple occasions I noticed the the tailgate would open unintentionally. I thought it was my key fob in my pocket getting activated , but soon dismissed that theory. The tailgate would sometimes open when I am shifting from Park to Drive. Several times it would open when I release the E brake. I have contacted the dealer, but all they can offer is we'll take a look at it”

NHTSA complaint #11418068, filed 2021-05

An unknown warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that the headlights remained illuminated after the vehicle was turned off, and the doors failed to lock. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to call the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. …”
