“A 2000 Ford f-350, dually. On the interstate, the front left tire pealed like a banana. We didn't know what had taken place until getting the truck under control and stopped. Thought it was our time, very lucky the truck did not roll over. The damage was shocking! Front bumper, along the whole left side and under carriage to the back . Damaged!”

NHTSA complaint #10039254, filed 2003-09, 36,000 miles

“Both rear inside tires went flat at the same time. The right tire had approx. 5390 miles on it since it was the spare from an earlier blowout. The left tire had approx. 22875 miles on it. I have not filed this with the tire company due to their treatment from the first failure. I was towing a fifth wheel rv trailer at the time of the incident.”

NHTSA complaint #10008308, filed 2003-03, 22,875 miles

“I had a serious tire failure. The internal steel belts separated causing the tire to deform. Fortunately I was able to get off the highway safely without incident, although it was very scary. The tire was a firestone steeltex radial r4s ii. It was on my 2000 Ford f350 truck. I only have 24,000 miles on the truck. I am now worried the other tires may have the same issue. Is there any recall on this model of tire?”

NHTSA complaint #10171140, filed 2006-10, 24,000 miles

“On september 17, 2003, I had a firestone steeltex radial r4s on the right rear of my 2000 Ford f-350 separate on interstate 10 in south mississippi. Firestone did not replace or pay for replacement of s tire in violation of there product warranty. After further inspection, I was advised by a goodyear tire dealer that I should replace all four tires and have done so.”
