“The 60 part of the 60/40 middle seat is stuck in the folded down position. The latch was always difficult to use. I had to really yank on it to get it to engage. Now it is just broken. I can only seat 1 person in the middle seat and the passengers in the 3rd seat can exit out of only 1 door. The replacement part is expensive and from reading other postings, it will break again. It appears to be a design flaw.”

NHTSA complaint #11023450, filed 2017-09, 100,000 miles

“Middle seats in Ford 2005 Freestyle. The latches broke in both seats. While folding the small middle seat to reach the back seat area, it would not release and open up for use. The cables and bars (s) bent. The seats have always opened hard, and we had to fiddle with them since I bought the car, to latch and unlatch, in sept 2005. Both latch units have been replaced. Old parts may not be avail.”

NHTSA complaint #10226465, filed 2008-05, 50,000 miles

“The first incident my fuel gauge is off & producing incorrect data of gas remaining in car & driver window would roll up and down when trying to just roll it up. I took the car back to the dealership they did not fix the issue. Another incident I was on the highway and the stalled while driving. Third incident I was at a stop light with my 5 year old daughter in the car, all of a sudden the car made a loud revving up noise then shot us forward into oncoming traffic. I was barely able to back up before the cars reached us. …”

NHTSA complaint #10487747, filed 2012-12, 55,000 miles

“2005 Ford Freestyle surges since about 20,000 miles. Now has 100,000 and surging around 5 feet, mostly in and out of parking or in stop/go traffic. My car lunged aprrox. 5 feet backwards and almost hit ladyas I was pulling out of parking space at grocery store; she screamed, jumped, and yelled at me (understandable). I would have hit her if my foot was not on the brake. No dealer could find the problem from 2006 until now, 2010. Ford has offered no help or recall on this throttle body problem. …”

NHTSA complaint #10335964, filed 2010-06, 99,000 miles

“The car started showing hesitation when accelerating and making a strange noise early in 2010. This condition got progressively worse until one day, while driving on the freeway, the engine would not respond to the gas pedal being depressed, the wrench light came on, and I was forced to coast to the side of the road. I turned the car off for a few minutes and when I attempted to restart it, the gas pedal seemed to be working again. Took the car to jones Ford the next day and they told me the throttle body was bad and replaced it to the tune of $638.97. Date of service was april 1, 2020. …”
