“My 2005 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder 5 speed accelerator pedal sticks requiring more foot pressure than normal to accelerate and making me over accelerate to get the car to start moving.”

NHTSA complaint #10143454, filed 2005-11, 700 miles

“Inertia switch continues to fail under normal driving conditions. I've had this switch go off so many times, I'm hesitant to continue driving my truck! Last night it happened in the middle of a crowded freeway a little after rush hour. I was able to make it off the freeway due to an offramp, but since the brakes were practically non-existent I slowly hit into a curb. This is very frustrating! Truck completely shuts off for no reason!!!! Now the switch won't stay off and I guess I'll need to take it to Ford. However from reading all the other posts, not sure what good that'll do.”

NHTSA complaint #10205880, filed 2007-10, 55,000 miles

“Driving home from work (1/4 commute from office to house, through residential neighborhood). Moving along street at 25 MPH, approach slight road incline & apply gas appropriately for conditions (dry paved road); vehicle suddenly accelerates very rapidly, causing rear end to fishtail, vehicle pulls left; (strikes parked car at end of driveway left side of road); applying brakes while attempting to gain control of steering; brakes will not slow the vehicle; steering over-corrects to right; (strike parked car at end of driveway right side of road); vehicle continues on and strikes side of house. …”

NHTSA complaint #10702995, filed 2015-03, 116,000 miles

“At 200k miles I got an air bag light on my guage cluster. The blinking code corresponded to a bad connection at the CLOCKSPRING. I also noticed my cruise control and horn were also inoperable, also an indicator of a bad CLOCKSPRING. Ford part number 1l5z-14a664-ab is the replacement part and is currently unavailable, for the last 6 months. This part covers a few different models and has been exhausted by the dealers when correcting the Airbag recall. The dealer can not give me a date on a replacement part.”

NHTSA complaint #11506987, filed 2023-02

“The contact owns a 2005 Ford Ranger. While driving 40 MPH, the contact attempted to accelerate and noticed that the vehicle had continued to accelerate on its own. The contact had to shut the vehicle off in order to stop the failure. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic, where the throttle body was replaced. The current and failure mileages were 20,000. The VIN was not available.”
