Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Paid for a 100,000 mile tune up, new front brakes, etc. One day later it suddenly surged forward right as I was pulling into my driveway. I came close to driving through the closed garage door. Hit the brake hard and the RPM's shot up. I turned off the engine while in park. My husband started the car while in park and the RPM's shot up again. Eventually, he pressed the gas pedal and the RPM's dropped. Earlier that same week, I had to swerve to avoid hitting a car in front of me while driving down hill. …”

NHTSA complaint #10628459, filed 2014-08, 98,000 miles

“When going down the street at any speed, the car can just start going faster on its own, going around corners or anytime going down the road. Its getting very dangerous. Most of the time when you tap on the gas pedal, it will break free and go back to normal but sometimes it just goes faster and faster. Have to pop it in neutral and keep tapping the pedal and hope it goes back to normal. Very dangerous for me or my kids and other drivers on the road. Another thing is that I can turn on the cruise control and the light shows it is on but when I push the set button nothing happens.”

NHTSA complaint #10498509, filed 2013-02, 93,000 miles

“Car accelerator got stuck at about 4,000 rpms. It would not dislodge until car was forced to stop by maxing pressure on brakes and putting car into 'park'. Research shows that the cruise control cable gets worn and disconnects from the throttle body and can get stuck on the throttle cable disallowing the throttle to return to idle position. This VIN is not subject to any open recalls but the condition is very dangerous.”

NHTSA complaint #10730846, filed 2015-06, 85,000 miles

“Car will not start right away, must pump gas and keep trying after a minute or 2 then it starts. We know there is a plastic part on the fuel line and were told to watch for issues and a recall as there were many issues with it.”

NHTSA complaint #10717479, filed 2015-05, 32,000 miles

“Car continued to accelerate and had difficulty in stopping. Put into neutral and engine raced for a few minutes, tapped gas pedal and it slowed down. There have been four incidents of this nature since the latest being sunday, july 1, 2012. After the first three incidents it was taken to the local Ford dealer and they could find nothing wrong. The last incident when put into neutral the engine and transmission shook for a while and it slowed down.”
