“Fuel pump fuses keep blowing. Have been towed 5 times, car just dies out. I am at my max in tows through aaa. We had the fuel pump replaced and the fuel relay switch replaced. Car ran for a couple of days and blew fuse after fuse. About 12 fuses have blown. In my research I have seen numerous problems with the Ford fuel pumps. Car is still in the shop and won't start.”

NHTSA complaint #10069364, filed 2004-01, 86,000 miles

“The fuel pump on these cars is woefully inadequate and is forced to work too hard. Thus, it burns out the motor very easily. The inner and outer tie rods are a joke - again, woefully inadequate. Although it did not happen to me, I've heard of several tie rod ends suffering catastrophic failures while the car was moving!! Please investigate these parts for the Taurus.”

NHTSA complaint #711969, filed 1999-09

“My Ford Taurus sho has left me stranded several times. The formula that usually causes the car to not start/stall is if I drive it for a while(.5-2 hours) and then shut it off for .5-1.5 hours. When I go to restart it, it will either not start or will start and run for a few minutes and then die suddenly in traffic. I have had the car in to 4 service stations (3 different Ford dealers) and all have said that there is nothing wrong with the car. …”

NHTSA complaint #736398, filed 2000-11

“My car stalls or just stops in the middle of traffic, it will go from 60mph to 0mph. This has happened over 20 times. I took it to peffley Ford for repairs, they charged me $669.36 and 6 days later my car cut out on me again and they towed it to their shop. They refused to look at my car without me paying more money for repairs and the tow truck. I have spent thousands of dollars on repairs for my car and I fear for my life every time I get into that car. I never know when it will cut out and I can't afford to buy a new car. …”

NHTSA complaint #10002723, filed 2003-01

“I know of once when the second owner had this same problem and he had the fuel pump replaced. We have had this problem twice ourselves, and have had to have the fuel pump replaced both times. It failed the first time while I was at the grocery store in 1997. The second time, I was on the highway just as I tried to accelerate from a stop light. There I was, in the middle of hwy 25. Before we got it fixed the second time and before we found out what was really going on, my son had vehicle quit on him in a very busy intersection of st. Cloud, and again on his way back while driving on hwy 10. …”
