“I have had my transmission go out twice in my 2000 Honda Accord. Each time, the gears start clunking while shifting and shortly after the transmission fails and is completely useless. Currently, my car will rev up like it's in neutral and then spontaneously slam into gear and slip back into neutral again which has, again, ruined the transmission. This is a recurrent problem and nothing has been done to make the issue better.”

NHTSA complaint #10371237, filed 2010-12, 157,000 miles

“I have a 2000 Honda Accord se. In march I had to have my engine replaced because it overheated. It was not the heads and the mechanic could not figure out what caused it after examining the car for a month. Now my transmission is going. The engine cost me $2,000 and the transmission is estimated parts and labor at $3800. They need to extend the transmission warranty from 7 years 9 months to 10 years. My car only has 88,000 mile and has been maintained well.”

NHTSA complaint #10282011, filed 2009-08, 87,000 miles

“With 46,270 miles, two head bolts broke resulting in the failure of the head gasket. The vehicle did not overheat until after the gasket failed. The dealer has suggested' that the bolts were over torqued after manufacturer, however, I purchased this vehicle new and no work has been done on it that would involve the head bolts. Repair involved a new gasket kit and 12 new bolts. I have the old bolts.”

NHTSA complaint #10116070, filed 2005-03, 46,770 miles

“Egr valve went bad on the car. Internet search shows that this happens to many people. Asked dealer to fix the problem as it was a defect. They said it wasn't. I had to pay since it was affecting my fuel economy. It was replaced by a new, different type of valve. That makes me think the original part was bad.”

NHTSA complaint #10066361, filed 2004-04, 94,000 miles

“Vehicle idle real low and shut off when stop. When that happen I restart engine, put it in drive and vehicle will shut off again. In order to make it stay running, I have to give it some gas while I have a foot on the brake.”
