Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The adaptive cruise control is the safety issue. It creates danger for both me and for others. Traveling at speeds approximately 65-70 mph the car suddenly brakes very hard. Causes me and my passengers to be jolted extremely hard. Its happened 3 times, I was fortunate enough to not have anybody traveling behind me. If a car was to be traveling behind me at a safe distance the sudden braking would cause them to rear end me. I can only imagine how horrible the injuries could be. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by dealership. I have an appt. …”

NHTSA complaint #11645462, filed 2025-02

“I was driving on the Interstate had car on cruise control set at 70mph it began to slow to 60mph because of a vehicle in front of me so I moved to the left lane to go around and the vehicle just speed up (G5 force) on its own very quickly and reached speeds up to 80mph and would have kept accelerating past 80mph had I not disengaged the cruise control instead of braking. The second issue we have found was the steering became uncontrollable. It feels like the steering wheel gets stuck and hard to control to stay in your lane. You are not relaxed to drive this vehicle. …”

NHTSA complaint #11564884, filed 2024-01

“The contact owns a 2024 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, and the cruise control activated, the brakes were inadvertently applied causing the vehicle to slow down. The contact disengaged the cruise control feature. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was not able to be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 650.”

NHTSA complaint #11577167, filed 2024-03, 650 miles

“While traveling on the highway at approximately 55–60 mph, my vehicle suddenly began shaking and progressively losing engine power and speed. The check-engine light started flashing rapidly, followed by multiple dashboard warnings involving the braking system, power steering, vehicle stability control, collision mitigation, and other safety systems. Despite pressing the accelerator, the vehicle continued losing power and slowing down. The engine remained running, but the vehicle could not maintain highway speed.”
