“I applied my brakes approaching a stop sign at low speed. My brake pedal went to the floor and I had almost no brakes. I kept my foot on it and when it got as far as I could push it my engine accelerated at very high rpms. I shifted into neutral and then into park and shut the engine off. I had a tow truck come and pick it up.”

NHTSA complaint #10763353, filed 2015-09, 46,000 miles

“This entry has to do with replacement / aftermarket disc brake pads manufactured by raybestos. I searched this site to try and determine if this is the place to report this, but I'm uncertain, and felt it best to just give you this information regardless. I'm an auto mechanic and I've seen this issue quite a few times now over the past 5 years, and I contacted the manufacturer via their web site over 2 weeks ago, and they did not respond. This is a design error in the brake pad shim causing the pad to not make full contact with the outer caliper surface. …”

NHTSA complaint #11165481, filed 2019-01, 103,000 miles

“To whom it may concern, I am a new Honda owner. Last night (5/15/18) I was driving on the highway going 60mph when my rear break just locked up automatic nearly causing a terrible collision. Immediately after, I pulled over at 10:30pm at night on the side of the road. After having a full diagnostic it was a revealed a break malfunction due to failed ABS module causing all brakes to immediately lock up without warning or notice. This ABS/vsa module assembly safety feature is the brain for the brakes and is vitally important to the over all function of the vehicle braking system. …”

NHTSA complaint #11096441, filed 2018-05, 49,000 miles

“Exiting the small to moderate sized parking lot I was stopped at the red light. This is a t intersection where one must turn right or left. After the light turned green I slowly accelerated to turn left when the car accelerated immediately to about 50 MPH while I was entering the intersection, I managed to turn left. Despite vigorously braking, the car continued at what seemed like an incredible speed, it felt like an accelerating race car. I hit a truck and another car sideswiping them as I tried to swerve out of the way of traffic and parked cars. …”

NHTSA complaint #10592088, filed 2014-05, 24,000 miles

“Rear brake pads completely worn out at 18,000 miles on 2009 Honda crv. Pads were inspected by dealer at 15,000 miles and were fine. Pads failed premature, no warning, all highway miles.”
