“While driving with my infant son on the freeway, I felt the vehicle seeming to speed up involuntarily, I.e. Without putting my foot on the accelerator. I exited the freeway at the nearest off-ramp, looking for a place to pull over safely and inspect my vehicle. Having no place to pull over, I kept driving, by this time having to stomp on the brake to maintain a safe speed on the city street I was driving on. Upon coming to a red light and attempting to brake, the car accelerated, thus causing the brake to be ineffective. …”

NHTSA complaint #10211366, filed 2007-12, 110,000 miles

“The vehicle was parked on my driveway, I started the car, had my foot on the brake while I put the car into reverse gear. While my foot was still on the brake, the vehicle accelerated out of control, took off at top speed, crashed into a house across the street. The vehicle was totaled because of the speed at impact. The accident caused back and neck injuries to myself.”

NHTSA complaint #761586, filed 2002-05

“This car accelerated on its own the second I put it in drive .I did not touch the gas.the car then accelerated up to 60mph as it went airborne over a hill , and hit a tree. I was very seriously injured from this accident, and have a permanent injury from it.”

NHTSA complaint #705469, filed 1999-04

Car jumped into reverse and accelerated try to apply pressure to brake could not stop hit vechile to the back of me at a high rate of speed. Could not stop till I hit the car behind me. I totalled my vehicle and the van I hit. This accident could of been deadly if a child had walked in between the two vehicles. The car was out of control. I found an article in consumer reports that had my 94 Jeep as a safey problem . …”

NHTSA complaint #720799, filed 2000-03

“Jeep was in my driveway. My wife was putting the car into reverse when it, on its own, lunged backwards at maximum acceleration, knicked my son who jumped out of the way, knicked another car in my driveway, and smashed accelerating backwards into a tree, totaling the car in the process. I know you are investigating 1995-1999 grand cherokees for this defect, but you need to include 1994 model year as well. There are at least 23 similar incidents for 94 jeeps on your website. I have printed them all out. We had the car inspected by chrysler at the time and they claimed driver error. …”
