“The first month or so, my car would randomly die on me, whether I was stopped at a red light, or driving, regardless what speed I was going. I was able to start the car up immediately afterwards and continue like nothing happened. A few weeks later it wouldn't start at all.called mechanic, he changed the coil. Drove great for a month or so. Then it started doing the same thing. Took the Jeep to the shop. Had fuel filter, fuel pump put in. Ran good for a couple of weeks before it started all over again . Progressively got worse. …”

NHTSA complaint #11283038, filed 2019-11, 190,000 miles“While driving the car engine quits suddenly. Mechanic unable to determine cause. Extremely dangerous when on highway in heavy traffic. Barely escaped serious accident when it happened on rt 81. This has happened on a continuing basis for the past six months. Will get rid of car asap.”

NHTSA complaint #10531724, filed 2013-07, 290,000 miles“This vehicle, along with other grand cherokees made in 1994, 1995 and 1996 allows the security system to shut it down completely when it is stopped or moving very slowly. Chrysler acknowledges there is a problem and changed the design in 1996 (the security system was/is wired into the vehicle itself). I have been stranded many times, sometimes in dangerous places, and had to have it towed at now-significant cumulative cost. The vehicle is now deconstructed at courtesy dodge in grand rapids with a new battery and everything in good working condition-- and only 117,000 miles on it. …”
