NHTSA complaint #10227949, filed 2008-05, 5,423 miles

“No warning just driving vehicle as usual and engine stalled in traffic, now I am told I need a new engine and after researching have found several other incidents on the net for similar failures, oil has been changed regularly, engine does have a little over 100,000 miles but this shouldn't just happen, others have indicated something about the valve seat slipping causing such problems I don't know.”

NHTSA complaint #10275435, filed 2009-07, 100,200 miles

“Three times in the past year as I am coming to a stop, the Jeep's engine started racing, only by shifting into neutral did I stop before hitting the car in front. I needed to shut the engine off, because the engine was roaring.”

NHTSA complaint #10236155, filed 2008-07, 59,000 miles

“I have a Jeep Liberty renegade 4x4 with only 38,000 miles on it. I was driving on the quickway (hwy 17 in middletown, ny) when my car dropped dead in the road with no indications of anything wrong with it. It had gas in it, it's fluids were all changed, etc. I found out later that the spring broke causing the rocker arm to drop out therefore causing major damage to my vehicle. Had I been driving in the passing lane or middle lane of the quickway, my son and I would have been dead particularly if a semi was behind us or a major crash if in either lanes. …”

NHTSA complaint #10408417, filed 2011-06, 38,000 miles

“I have had numerous problems with this Jeep. Always detected a rotten egg smell dealer claimed it was the gas. After 1 year of ownership driving it in pennsylvania I could not go up hill without losing ground and smelling something burning. Dealer unable diagnose. Then in 05 starting having brake grinding and squealing, dealer also claims this is normal operation. I have had to replace the water pump and the catalytic converter and only have 34,000 miles on the car. …”
