Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The noil filter is in a bad place that causes oil to collect in all areas of the engine and skid plates that cause excess drips on my garage floor. Smoke on the hot engine parts and could cause a fire each time the oil filter is changed. I have to constantly remind the dealer to completely spray and degrease the under areas and sides of the engine each time or I have to return numerous times about oil leaks. It does not make sense to create oil problems because of the filter location....”

“Driving my 2010 Jeep Liberty, stopped at a stop light and the car shuttered slightly and died. Brand new 7 month old car, battery is fine, started right back up, just stalled out for no apparent reason. Not on a incline, car was flat, automatic transmission, 68 degrees outside, not hot/overheating, no gauge or warning lights came on before or after it died. No AC was in use. Only thing being used was vent and the cigarette lighter to power my son's dvd player in the back seat. No stereo was on either. …”

“Car overheated thermostat was replaced, then two days later overheated again then 2 weeks later overheated again, coolant is leaking into the car, was empty three times in one month. Supposedly was heater core which has been replaced twice in two weeks.”

NHTSA complaint #10355954, filed 2010-09, 5,023 miles

“2010 Jeep Liberty with less than 9000 miles started leaking oil from some where under engine when running, hot oil leaks into the exhaust system with potential to start a fire due to hot oil and hot exhaust system. Dealer claims not to know anything about any problems with new engine. Please help me car is still under warranty but dealer doesn't know what is the problem.”
