“Cooling fan went out which caused Jeep to overheat, causing engine damage. I had to replace the short block, water pump, engine fan. I was told that this is the exact issue that has been recalled but not for my vehicle. This needs to be looked into more thoroughly for my Jeep's year and manufacture date. This first occurred 4/23/07 and was fixed several times until 5/8/07.”

“The radiator on this vehicle has been replaced times in the 8 years I have owned it. It has 7 recalls, the window on the passenger side is broken, the sensors in the engine have been replaced twice. The radiator is plastic and looks like something out of a bubble gum machine. It also has a plastic cooling fan, not metal, which also broke. I have put as much money in this vehicle as I paid for it. The brakes are horrid and go out constantly. I only have a 5 mile commute to work. The vehicle is serviced on a regular basis. It is a huge disappointment. …”

NHTSA complaint #10711998, filed 2015-04, 156,000 miles

“My 2005 Jeep Liberty has had numerous engine problems since I purchased it. Three times when the check engine light was on and I was under warranty, the mechanic at the Jeep dealership turned the light off and said that was just something Jeep's do. Now that my warranty has expired, I need an entire new engine. The mechanic saying that oil is not flowing through the lines in the engine. I recently replaced the water pump and the mechanic mentioned it was much too soon for that. …”

“2005 Jeep Liberty crd engine suddenly failed on a major road. Vehicle was pushed off road and taken to dealership where it was found the EGR valve failed. Part was replaced 10 days later, and returned. Approx 2 weeks later the EGR control valve went bad and 6 weeks later was replaced by dealership, when I went to pick up the vehicle it would not start. I was told the EGR valve had gone bad again and needed to be replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #10140457, filed 2005-10, 10,230 miles

“I have had my 2005 Jeep Liberty in five times for the same problem. In each case there is a severe to very severe acceleration problem. In two cases had to have vehicle towed in because it would not accelerate at all, two times I had to baby the vehicle into dealership only once did I drive it in like an almost normal vehicle. Engine seemed to be running fine in neutral but seemed to be maybe fighting with auto transmission or torque converter to move. …”
