“I have had to replace the fuel pump twice. The first time was in 2006 at around 27,000 miles. I was on the highway doing 55 when it went out may 10, 2014. I had about 101,900 miles this time. I also have problems with the fuel spilling out of the tank when fueling up. I never reported this because I didn't realize this was a common Jeep problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10588235, filed 2014-05, 101,900 miles“Chrysler sent me a recall notice in march 2014 stating a trailer hitch would be installed free of charge as a rear-end collision could cause a fuel leakage causing an underbody fire resulting in injury or death. I have called chrysler and a Jeep dealership numerous times...chrysler says they do not have the parts...it's been 4 months....”
NHTSA complaint #10608518, filed 2014-07, 183,400 miles“The vehicle consistently spills fuel upon filling the tank. Automatic shutoffs at gas stations do not prevent this from happening. It has happened at different gas stations in different states, so I do not believe it is caused by the gas station pumping system. Some spills have been up to 0.5 gallons. In my opinion this presents a severe fire hazard.”
NHTSA complaint #10516057, filed 2013-06, 75,286 miles“When I fill the gas tank, I get a back splash of gas once the tank is full. Cannot use the automatic shut off on the gas pump. I have to estimate as close as I can how much gas I can put into tank. If I over estimate, gas back splashes out and spills out onto pavement, onto me and vehicle. Very concerned about safety of gas tank and the risk of gas igniting.”
NHTSA complaint #10515443, filed 2013-06, 20,000 miles“When filling up my Jeep for the first time (I had just bought it the previous day), the pump kicked off, and before I had time to put my hand on the pump handle, gas came spewing back out at me. About 1 - 2 gallons came out. I ended up getting gas all over my shoes and the bottom of my pants, and all over the side of my vehicle and the tire.”
