Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“On multiple occasions Jeep wrote that I would receive a trailer hitch to enhance safety from rear end collisions, to prevent the gas tank from blowing up. When I tool the Liberty in for the recall, all they put on was the holder for the ball hitch. They did not put on the trailer hitch itself. They provided a poorly copied letter which included this paragraph: do not attempt to tow with the campaign-installed trailer hitch assembly. …”

NHTSA complaint #10645002, filed 2014-10, 13,000 miles

“After only a few hundred miles on my new 2007 Liberty, the passenger front window failed, due to a faulty regulator, in november 2007. The dealer repaired it under warranty but said it was a common problem with this vehicle. After minimal use, the rear driver window failed for the same reason about 8 months later. I could manually push it up but it would fall after a few minutes of driving. The window may have been up and down a dozen times in total before failing. …”

NHTSA complaint #10273783, filed 2009-06, 900 miles

“Passenger side window in front made a loud noise and went down when rolling down power window. Then one by one each of my trucks window did the same thing. None of the windows will roll back up. When I called the dealership she was aware told me this happens to all of those types of vehicles and when I replace them more than likely it will happen again. To fix the regulators in all four windows will be 350-500 per window to repair. The regulator from what I understood is a small plastic piece in these specific trucks that break all the time.”

NHTSA complaint #10322859, filed 2010-03, 65,000 miles

“2007 Jeep Liberty. 4th time window regulators failed in past three years. All windows once and same windows twice.. On 10/08/10 while traveling south on I 95. Windows were in full upright position, when out no where, the front passenger window dropped . Two minutes later the rear drivers side dropped out. I had to drive 100 miles home like that. . Very scary . Dealer people know about the problem but said no recall yet.. I guess someone has to die and sue them before they will recall. Soooo many people have same complaint. Please help us before someone gets really hurt.. Thank you. …”

NHTSA complaint #10360068, filed 2010-10, 49,800 miles

“We added a rubber mat on the drivers side floor to keep the Jeep mat cleaner. When the gas pedal was pushed down to go up a hill, it stuck down. This cause the Jeep to gain speed when back on the level. Brake pressure was applied keeping the Jeep under control. A warning needs to go out that the addition of a mat or carpet above the current Jeep mat will cause the gas pedal to stick in the down position which could cause a crash or death.”
