“Vehicle was driving normally and was in motion going straight leaving a parking lot and the front suspension lower control arm just broke without warning due to corrosion. The right side of the control arm landed onto the wheel making it so the right front wheel could no longer turn. I'm glad it happened to me in a parking lot and not on the highway or I could have been seriously injured.”
NHTSA complaint #11291129, filed 2019-12, 110,018 miles“Driving down the highway and suddenly I had little steering control and it felt like I blew a tire. Pulled to the side of the highway, and saw that my tire was blown and my rim was damaged because the ball joint snapped and the control arm went through the rim. This was on the front drivers side and happeneded about 3 months ago. A similar thing happened today but it affected the front passenger side.”
NHTSA complaint #11102022, filed 2018-06, 140,000 miles“Lower ball joint broke from corrosion. This is recalled on 02-06 models but not 07. However, my Jeep was manufactured in 2006. I was pulling into my driveway and felt something break below me. As I pulled further in I felt a grinding noise. Had I been driving faster I would have wrecked my car.”
NHTSA complaint #11164008, filed 2018-12, 140,000 miles“On oct 4, 2019, as I was driving straight at approximately 10 MPH on a dry, smooth road, my driver's side lower front ball joint failed. The front of my car dropped as a result, and I was unable to control the vehicle. I did not strike any other vehicle or barrier of any kind.”
NHTSA complaint #11267016, filed 2019-10, 138,200 miles“I've been aware of an issue with my front lower ball joints for several months now but today, I made a right turn today and the ball joint broke altogether. I've been doing some research when it comes recalls of this nature and I know 2006 Jeep Liberty's have/had a recall in place for this very issue. I'm wondering if the recall should be expanded to include the 2007 model year as well?”
