“When driving my vehicle in windy conditions or when passing trucks on the highway either from the front or rear, the hood will move up and slam against the stop. It is so hard you can see the movement and hear the hood hit the safety catch. It will do this anytime there is a buffeting wind from the front or side. I am concerned the the hood will fail and come off and hit the windshield with a disastrous force.”

NHTSA complaint #10197750, filed 2007-07, 8,700 miles

“I bought a used 2007 Jeep wrangler 4-door sahara in march of 2012. About 30 days after the purchase (which is when dealer warranty expired) the vehicle's brakes starting squeaking. I took it to the dealership and they said it was because the brakes were dirty. They cleaned the brakes and sent me on my way. The next day the brakes started squeaking again every time I brake. I took it back and they said there was nothing they could do because the brakes were brand new. At this time, the front passenger door also stopped locking correctly. …”

NHTSA complaint #10494738, filed 2013-01, 55,000 miles

“On thurs june 25 at apx 1800 hrs both halves of the freedom top on my 2007 Jeep wrangler flew off the car at 55 MPH. The fiberglass failed and the tops tore away from the metal latches. I got fiberglass in my eyes and hurt my neck in the process. The tops were firmly secured and had not been off the car in at least six weeks. During those six weeks I had driven in excess of 55 MPH with out a problem had anyone been driving behind me the certainly could have been injured or killed. …”

NHTSA complaint #10275267, filed 2009-06, 40,000 miles

“The paint on the door hinges on my 2007 Jeep wrangler unlimited sahara began showing signs of rust. Presented vehicle to local dealer, and chrysler agreed to repaint the hinges under warranty. Within one week, paint on hinges began bubbling. Chrysler again agreed to repaint hinges under warranty. In talking with body shop, the issue is that the hinges are an alluminum alloy, and, with the steel hinge pin and the steel door, galvanic corrosion has occurred, and will continue to occur. Sounds to be a fundamental design flaw (fundamental metallurgy). …”

NHTSA complaint #10396581, filed 2011-04, 32,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2007 Jeep wrangler 4x4. While driving 65 MPH or greater in windy conditions, the hood would vibrate and elevate half an inch. The dealer installed two rubber stops under the hood; however, the failure continued. As of november 13, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 800 and current mileage was 15,140. Updated 01-11-08. The consumer stated the dealer informed him to put a weather strip on the vehicle but this method did not correct the defect. Updated 12/12/07”
