“The brakes totally failed in my 1999 Jeep Wrangler. The steel brake lines had rusted and the brake petal went to the floor. The vehicle is used in a suburban home environment and I feel that brake lines should not totally fail. We feel we were very lucky this happened in a parking lot not driving on the highway.”
NHTSA complaint #10284086, filed 2009-09, 88,000 miles“I was backing out of my driveway when the brakes totally failed. The brakes were factory installed and not after market. I put the emergency brake on and pushed the vehicle back into the driveway where it has remained.”
NHTSA complaint #10511579, filed 2013-05, 15,000 miles“1999 Jeep Wrangler had multiple rear differential failures before 70k miles. *** no answer required*** the original drive train was rebuilt using original mopar parts. The drive train failed for the second time at 69000 mile after only 11000 miles of use. This time the dealer refuses to provide any financial assistance. The vehicle had other failures which include water leaks, drive train seals failure, electrical failures, multiple ABS failures, air bag and seat belt problems, and the paint was peeling off the vehicle.”
NHTSA complaint #10148712, filed 2006-01, 69,500 miles“Vehicle in question was fitted with an automatic transmission. When brakes were applied, brake pedal went below accelerator pedal. If one was not very careful, the accelerator would also be depressed when applying brakes. After the fact, I remedied the situation by affixing a one and a half inch block of aluminum to the brake pedal.”
NHTSA complaint #753387, filed 2001-10“While driving speedometer jumps up and down from 20 to 80 MPH. Speedometer harness was replaced 4 times. Also, left front brakes locked up and had to be replaced. The consumer belives that this will be an ongoing problem.”
