“I was driving down the highway. There were no warning lights on my dashboard aside from the TPMS light. There was a loud pop noise, so I pulled over to check it out. Within 30 seconds smoke came from under the hood and quickly turned from white to black. Then the vehicle caught on fire. It was completely burned with nothing but the trunk left in tact.”

NHTSA complaint #11251938, filed 2019-08, 94,000 miles

“Hit a deer going 35 MPH and deployed both front airbags. I was the passenger when my airbag went off it hit my face and fractured my maxilla, broke off one tooth and made another loose enough it had to be pulled out also. Split upper and lower lip both needing stitches. Do to the damage sustained and the airbags being deployed my insurance company found the car unrepairable and a total loss.”

NHTSA complaint #10747318, filed 2015-08, 139,000 miles

“Takata recall .... My passenger airbag light has been on for about 3 yrs. Now and when it has been hooked up to a computer results always come back the same... Error in airbag. Now I've contacted Nissan and they are telling me that even though I may have a takata airbag my VIN # is not on the recall list so therefore they cannot do anything about the problem. I would have to pay out of my own pocket to have it fixed. …”

NHTSA complaint #10863293, filed 2016-05, 36,000 miles

“On 2/19/21 I was driving my 2009 Murano on a windy morning down I-90 (issaquah) on at around 65mph in the slow lane, and my closed sunroof glass disengaged and blew off the car, luckily no one was behind me at the time, else it could have been catastrophic. I think this should be cause for a recall, or at least replacement by Nissan corp. There was no indication of an issue, and we've owned the vehicle for about 8 years. It makes me even wearier than I'm am regarding the issue of following distance for cars. …”

NHTSA complaint #11397706, filed 2021-02, 70,000 miles

“Recently, a problem arose with my 2009 Nissan Murano's occupant classification system (ocs). The airbag light in my car had turned on so I brought it to the mechanic. After numerous efforts, he suggested that I bring it to the local Nissan dealer. When I did, they were at a loss as to what to do. At the time, I called Nissan north america ('nna') to see if there was anything they could do. After registering my concerns, nna apparently made some inquiries of the dealer and then told me that the car was out of warranty. …”
