What owners report

Complaints on this model year come mostly from low-mileage trucks, many in the first few thousand miles, and center on electrical and drivetrain behavior: the engine shutting off on its own, the truck shifting into park with the parking brake applied, touchscreen blackouts, and reports of revving or surging away from a stop. Brake and parking-brake concerns, including a soft pedal and rapid rear pad wear, appear next, and a smaller group describes airbag warning messages. Several owners describe repeat dealer visits without a confirmed repair, and some say the problem could not be reproduced at the shop.

  1. Electrical system

Engine shuts off and truck shifts into park

    • 20 complaints (26%)
    • median 5,400 mi at 1.2 yrs old (2 state mileage, few)
    • 1 mention a crash, fire or injury
    • filed 2023–2026

Owners describe the engine cutting out without warning, usually at low speed in parking lots or at intersections, after which the transmission shifts into park and the electronic parking brake applies by itself. Many mention the battery light or a reduced battery capacity message at the same moment, and restarting sometimes takes several attempts after shifting to park. According to the complaints, some dealers could not replicate the event or found no stored codes, while others pointed to a loose fuse, a low-voltage condition, or the 48-volt battery. Mostly reported at low speeds and at very low mileage, often within the first few thousand miles.

    3 related service bulletins

What to check: Ask the dealer for any stored codes related to the ABS/ESC module and the start/stop system, and whether powertrain software updates have been applied. On a test drive, note whether the engine restarts cleanly after each stop.

2 excerpts from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“The truck died had to jump it. I was driving it and it stopped itself went into park automatically. it turned on the parking brake. and then died. Took several minutes to start. Now the truck on first start up and first shift into gear there is a delay and no power to the drive train then has I’m hitting the gas it accelerates very quickly”

    NHTSA complaint #11603846, filed 2024-07

“Came to a stop sign, waited for traffic to clear to turn left as I floored it started moving and then all of a sudden loss acceleration and notice rpm ramped up to 7k. As in was just coasting I notice only my rpm would go up but the truck wouldn’t move. Lucky I coasted to the side of road and shifted to park. Turned off car and then restarted. Drive home the remaining 30 miles which it seemed to work fine. …”

  2. Engine

Revving or surging away from a stop

    • 10 complaints (13%)
    • median 50 mi at 0.7 yrs old (1 states mileage, few)
    • 1 mention a crash, fire or injury
    • filed 2024–2026

Owners report the truck revving or accelerating on its own, sometimes from a standstill with the brake applied and sometimes as they pull away after a stop. Several describe the rear tires spinning or the truck moving toward traffic before the brakes brought it back, and a few say engine speed rose without a matching increase in road speed. Complaints often link the events to the automatic start/stop feature or the eTorque system, and some owners say they were advised to switch start/stop off each time they drive. Reported across the mileage range in the sample, usually in stop-and-go traffic or right after a start/stop event.

    3 related service bulletins

What to check: Try several stops and restarts with the start/stop system active and watch for a delayed or abrupt throttle response. Ask whether any PCM or transmission control module updates were done.

2 excerpts from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“Truck has auto start/stop for fuel efficiency. It automatically engages on startup. Truck is prone to sudden unexpected acceleration when it is engaged. Has almost caused 3 wrecks with my truck. Dealership says they know about the problem and that I should just turn it off everytime I get in the truck. This will kill somebody some day. I forgot to turn it off today and it almost caused me to rear-end another vehicle while at a stoplight.”

    NHTSA complaint #11664924, filed 2025-06

“My mom was driving my 2024 Ram 1500 Limited equipped with eTorque and was coming to a stop. While decelerating, the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly accelerated forward without her intentionally pressing the accelerator pedal. She immediately applied the brakes in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but I was unable to stop it before the vehicle struck a brick building. The collision caused damage to the front of my vehicle and substantial damage to the building’s brick exterior wall. …”

    NHTSA complaint #11766622, filed 2026-09
  3. Electrical system

    Touchscreen goes black or freezes

    • 10 complaints (13%)
    • typically at 1.8 yrs old
    • 1 mention a crash, fire or injury
    • filed 2024–2026

Owners describe the 12-inch Uconnect display going black, freezing, or restarting on its own, at startup and while driving. While the screen is out, they say climate and defrost controls, the backup camera, and vehicle settings are unavailable, and some mention a speaker pop or an image that shifts size without input. Complaints also cover the HVAC page locking up on a temperature setting and a radio that does not follow station changes. Reported from the first few thousand miles onward, sometimes right after a remote or push-button start.

    Recall 26V3270005 related service bulletins

What to check: Start the truck cold and check that the screen boots promptly and the backup camera appears in reverse. Ask whether the rearview camera recall and any Uconnect software bulletins have been applied.

2 excerpts from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“I am reporting a catastrophic, cascading electrical and mechanical safety defect involving the central electronic network, hydraulic braking system, and the supplemental restraint system (SRS) on a 2024 Ram TRX.In the week leading up to the collision, the vehicle exhibited persistent electrical anomalies, specifically where the primary display screen/infotainment system would suddenly crash and go completely black while operating. …”

    NHTSA complaint #11766200, filed 2026-09

“The vehicles main 12inch information screen goes blank and will not turn on until about 45 minutes after the vehicle has been running when the information is black no safety features work and the dash reads no key detected in the vehicle while the key is inside”

    NHTSA complaint #11582992, filed 2024-04
  4. Brakes

Parking brake engages or pedal feels soft

    • 11 complaints (14%)
    • median 9,500 mi at 1.4 yrs old (2 state mileage, few)
    • 2 mention a crash, fire or injury
    • filed 2024–2026

Complaints describe the electric parking brake applying by itself, in one case while driving at road speed, and in others refusing to release on a cold start or while parked. Owners also report a brake pedal that sinks toward the floor and needs pumping before the truck slows, and intermittent brake and parking-brake warning lights. One owner was told a corroded connector at the brake actuator required harness replacement, and another reports rear pads worn out before 24,000 miles. Reported from the first months of ownership through the first two years, with several examples under about 10,000 miles.

    Recall 24V6530001 related service bulletin

What to check: At a standstill, apply and release the parking brake a few times and confirm it releases cleanly with no warning message. Have a mechanic measure rear pad thickness and inspect the parking brake actuator wiring.

2 excerpts from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“Vehicle failed state inspection w less than 24,000 miles due to excessive rear brake wear. Brake pad wear was significantly greater and failed inspection on the piston side of the brake pads potentially indicating failure or improperly functioning of electronic emergency brake.”

    NHTSA complaint #11741482, filed 2026-06

“The warning lights for the brake and parking brake began intermittently going off on the dashboard. The parking brake was not engaged when the warning lights were on. In mid-January the parking break went while the vehicle was stopped and in Park. The brake would not release. Upon being towed to the dealers, the issue communicated was the the electrical connector for the brake actuator was corroded and the entire wiring harness would need to be replaced. This was odd given the truck was under a year old. …”

  5. Other or unknown

    Airbag warning message stays on

    • 5 complaints (6%)
    • typically at 2.0 yrs old
    • 2 mention a crash, fire or injury
    • filed 2025–2026

Owners report a service airbag message appearing on the cluster that clears and then returns, in some cases at very low mileage. One owner describes a front-end collision in which no airbags deployed, and another says a recall notice for the airbag circuit did not apply to their truck according to the dealer. Complaints describe the indicator as intermittent rather than constant. Reported at low mileage in the sample, including trucks with roughly 13,000 miles or less.

    Recall 25V298000Recall 24V199000

What to check: Check that the airbag indicator lights briefly at startup and then goes out, and ask whether the driver airbag and clock spring recalls have been completed for this VIN.

An excerpt from owner complaints in NHTSA records

“The airbag system failed to deploy during a front-end collision. Despite significant damage to the front of the vehicle, none of the airbags activated. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The driver (my husband) hit his head on the steering wheel due to the airbags not deploying, which put his safety at serious risk. The lack of airbag deployment increased the chances of injury during the impact. The problem has not yet bee confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. …”

Buying note. This model year is still young, so reported mileage is low and most complaints concern software and electronics rather than worn parts. Before buying, confirm that the open recalls have been completed, drive the truck through several stop-and-go cycles with start/stop active, and ask for records showing which software updates were applied.

Summary written with AI from a sample of 60 NHTSA complaints for this model year (picked at random, with complaints that state a mileage and recent ones taken first), then checked automatically against the source records. Where a problem shows a complaint count, every complaint for this model year was matched with fixed keyword rules (written with AI and tested against the sample), and the mileage, age and repair figures are calculated from those complaints; owners' figures are as stated, not verified. Other counts refer to the sample. The excerpts come from NHTSA's public complaint records and are unverified; capitalisation is normalised, NHTSA staff notes are removed, and shortened text ends with “…”. Something wrong? Example complaints

Electrical system: “About 2 weeks ago started hearing what sounded like a earing going bearing from under the hood on driver side. I took it to the dealership yesterday, told them im pretty sure bearing going out on MGU. The dealership called me about hour and half later, the MGU and belts tensioners failed. They have no clue when parts will be in to fix under warr. I must be one of the lucky ones and caught the problem before major problems started.”

NHTSA complaint #11643293, filed 2025-02

Engine: “Heater Core Windshield fogging because of antifreeze fumes interfering with the HVAC Yes the issue has been confirmed by the dealer (Sansone Ram, NJ) I wasn't sure but kept smelling antifreeze in the cabin and the front windshield was interfering with my view in front of me. This Vehicle is a 2024 Ram 1500 with approx 46000 miles, just a little out of the basic warranty but this issue is not a wear and tear issue, way to early for this vehicle to have this kind of Problem.”

NHTSA complaint #11728769, filed 2026-04

Other or unknown: “Within the first 3,000 miles of purchasing the vehicle, it would randomly go into neutral (although) it indicated drive. No warning signals were activated. This happened 5 times. The dealership tried to re-train the transmission which appeared to work for a bit, however the car now shuts down completely with no warning. It will engage the emergency brake as well. This has happened 4 times now. I have an elderly mom living with me, a husband with Parkinson's and I take care of my grand children. This is a huge safety issue. …”

NHTSA complaint #11668068, filed 2025-06

Transmission and drivetrain: “I recently purchased my first ram truck on 1/11/24. On the morning of 1/15/24 monday, I was leaving my work and as I tried to turn on my truck, it would not turn due to battery being dead. So, I asked coworker of mine to give me a jump. After 10 minutes or so, trunk was on but it had engine and abs, and trailer brake light on. I only had put on 277 miles at that time. Truck seems to make some random noises when driving. Also, when trying to trying to jump the truck it takes this lound sound in the speaker.”
