Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The electric emergency brake engaged twice while I was driving; luckily, both times, I was just above idle speed in a parking lot. One time, the engine cut off wholly and randomly while driving. Once, at an intersection with my family in the truck, the truck began revving up and accelerating toward oncoming traffic. My family was in the vehicle. I had to smash the brakes several times, and the back wheels were chiroing due to the forward acceleration. There were no warning lamps. I turned the truck into the local RAM dealership, and they cannot find an issue. …”

“The contact owns a 2024 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed on a steep hill, the engine braking system failed to function as intended. The contact stated that the engine braking system failed to activate, and the vehicle independently accelerated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the failure was confirmed. The contact was informed that no repair was available for the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. …”

NHTSA complaint #11651841, filed 2025-03, 50 miles

“My 2024 Ram 1500 TRX has recurring safety-related failures of the infotainment system affecting both Uconnect 5 (12” screen) and earlier Uconnect 4 units. These issues are widespread in 2021–2024 Ram TRX and Ram 1500 models and began or worsened after forced over-the-air updates. The primary defect is black-screen failures while driving. When the screen goes black or freezes, the truck loses all functions controlled through the display, including HVAC/defrost, backup camera, vehicle settings, seat controls, and performance gauges. …”

NHTSA complaint #11735050, filed 2026-05

“Vehicle: 2024 Ram 1500 Big Horn – 3.6L V6 eTorque Approximate mileage: 41,400 miles I am submitting this complaint regarding multiple incidents involving unexpected engine RPM increases, abnormal acceleration, and delayed throttle response following activation of the Auto Start/Stop system. On two separate occasions, while accelerating, the engine RPMs unexpectedly increased to approximately 3,000–4,000 without a corresponding increase in vehicle speed. The truck felt as though the transmission was temporarily disengaged or in neutral. …”
