“When the vehicle goes on the highway or the city, it gets about 15.4 mpg instead of ~30mpg. I have used 87 octane gane from different station still yielding the same result. The autorepair shop has checked for everything that could affect gas mileage, but there is no problem, what is going on? I bought Toyota for reliability and fuel efficiency, not to behave like a truck.”

NHTSA complaint #11362092, filed 2020-09, 143,776 miles

“I have a 2012 Toyota Camry. While making a turn the car loses acceleration. If the turn is long, as in a cloverleaf exit, the vehicle will almost stop. Pressing the gas has no effect. The vehicle will lag until it almost stops or until you come out of the turn. From what I find on the internet, this is a common problem with 2012 and later Toyota camrys but dealers stonewall about it. I hope you get enough complaints on this to issue a recall.”

NHTSA complaint #11301663, filed 2020-01, 65,000 miles

“On acceleration the gas cuts out, lasting around 3 to 10 seconds. I cannot duplicate this condition, it just happens sporadically. It is very dangerous because the car behind me has no indication that I am in limbo and could easily rear-end me. This usually occurs when I am turning at a low speed, but has happened when driving straight.”

NHTSA complaint #10496721, filed 2013-02, 800 miles

“I was driving on xpressway just pulling onto it,push down on gas to get speed and pedal was pushed all the way to the floor and my Camry would not go any faster then 40 I let up and tried again and still 40, then all at once it started going faster and faster”

NHTSA complaint #10717456, filed 2015-05, 17,000 miles

“In september 2012 I experienced a flattening out of the acceleration. Turning at a very low speed the car did not accelerate (this still occurs off and on). It is quite dangerous because there is no warning to the car behind me that I am no longer moving forward. It is like a stalling out which last around 5 seconds or so. Very unnerving but only seems to happen when I am going slow and turning the wheel.”
