“I applied the brakes slowly as I was driving on the highway moving about 25 MPH and instead of slowing down, the car accelerated--it jolted forward! I stepped on the brakes harder. This happened twice on one drive--I almost hit an 18 wheeler. Is there something I should do? I'm not sure if it is safe to drive.”
NHTSA complaint #11074019, filed 2018-02, 156,000 miles“Ever since I have owned this car I've noticed the accelerator and brakes are extremely touch and impossible to accelerate smoothly from a stop. The brakes are also extremely touchy so it's hard to come to a smooth stop without jerking. I have never had a problem like this and after reading all the complaints about about the accelerator and brakes I'm very worried that my car will eventually cause an accident. I would like to know if the people who had accidents or near accidents had this problem before the car went out of control. …”

The first time, I was able to slow it down. The second time I pumped on the brakes several times, without result. I kept pumping and it was very difficult to stop. Several more attempts and I was able to stop the car. The engine revved over and over and it took quite a bit of effort to actually stop the car. The engine only stop revving up when I put the car in park which gave a huge jolt to the car. I was able to stop, but not easily. …”
