“Accelerator gets stuck open. I took my foot off the gas and the vehicle accelerated. It would rev at high speeds when I stepped on the brake. I tried downshifting with no effect. When I finally stopped at a stoplight with both feet on the brakes the engine revved up to very high rpms, even when I put the vehicle in park. Then it finally stalled out.”

NHTSA complaint #11277582, filed 2019-11, 165,000 miles

“Have had continuous problems since my 2009 camery xle gas pedal recall was supposedly fixed. I didn't have a single problem with it before the recall was done and am now afraid to drive the car. The gas pedal has been sticking and binding up intermittently for the past month since the recall has been fixed . Toyota says there is nothing else they can do.”

NHTSA complaint #10322821, filed 2010-03, 29,000 miles

“2 complaints: 1. When I depress the gas pedal. It sometimes get stuck where I have to press even harder and then the front wheels start spinning too rapidly. One time at a school cross walk, the pedal stuck, I pushed harder and finally the wheels engaged but the screeching it made, had the school crossing guard giving me a dirty look. 2. The Camry is going through oil like you wouldn't believe. Within 5000 miles I have had to add more than 4 quarts of oil. It is ridiculous.”

NHTSA complaint #11032748, filed 2017-10, 120,000 miles

“Excessive oil consumption recall: over the last year I noticed my oil consumption was drastically increasing. I started burning through oil and having to add a quart every 2 months and now monthly. In the past few months, a very large plume of white smoke would spew out of my tail pipes; not just a little but a large cloud of smoke. It has a very burnt smell to it too. The smoke dissipates after the car warms and as long as the car is warm, it will not smoke. It only smoke when the vehicle has been off for over 2-3 hours. …”

NHTSA complaint #10722285, filed 2015-05, 110,000 miles

“After having car serviced for the 30,000 mile service, I noticed that the car wasn't holdin power. I took the car back to south bay Toyota, they test drove it found nothing wrong. Still having the problem, the following monday, I took the car to the original Toyota that I purchased it from to have them recheck it, they found nothing wrong, they said they test drove it also. As a result there was no charge. They told me to take it back to south bay Toyota because they were not responsible for their work. …”
