“I purchased my 2005 Toyota Tacoma used with 108,000 miles on it on 12/8/2016. It failed virginia inspection on 12/20/2016 due to rust in the frame. The truck is not safe or legal to drive. Toyota will not cover the damage under lsc e0d, which expired in march 2016, despite that the vehicle was in a Toyota dealer twice during the service campaign.”
NHTSA complaint #10937603, filed 2016-12, 108,000 miles“I was pulling into a curb parking space when suddenly the engine on my truck accelerated. My foot was already on the brake so I pushed all the way to the floor but I was slowly moving forward anyway. My brakes were smoking from trying to stop my truck. I hit the back of a parked car and pushed it approximately two parking spaces before I thought to turn the engine off.”
NHTSA complaint #10564124, filed 2014-02, 58,000 miles“Due to a faulty paint or manufacturing process my vehicle is experiencing excessive paint chipping, not caused by external forces. The manufacturer's local dealer as well as local reputable body shops, are aware of the problem. The manufacturer was contacted without resolution. While researching my particular situation, I came across numerous write ups of other consumers experiencing the same issue.”
NHTSA complaint #10654764, filed 2014-11, 89,000 miles“While getting my vehicle worked on a tech stated that there was a significant amount of rust on my frame. The Toyota rep came to look at it and said it wasn't too bad but that I might want to sell the car in a year or two rather than deal with the rust. An 8 year old vehicle should not have a frame that rusted.”
NHTSA complaint #10550162, filed 2013-10, 119,000 miles“My truck frame has an inordinate amount of rust and a perforating rust on the drivers side front of the frame approximately 7x6 inches of frame that has just cracked away with rust, I am sure my truck will not pass state inspection this year. Under Toyota's limited service campaign my truck should qualify for repairs but Toyota corporate does not recognize my truck as needing repair based on the VIN number.”
