“I had 8022 miles on my tacoma , toyota employee of almost a decade , drove like normal no adds , one morning drove to a conference and was on the road no more than 20 min and then I see the bed of my truck on fire , im on the interstate so i pull over quickly and call 911 and then it just burnt up and gone. Now a year later and toyota refuses to assist with anything saying they cant find out despite the insurance companies ruling me out and fowl play out. I feel strongly toyota has an obligation to make this right.”
NHTSA complaint #11710054, filed 2026-01“I’ve had this truck for less than 2 years and the driver’s indoor handle has snapped and broken twice. The handle stays intact but the inner component breaks. The only way to open the door is from the outside of the vehicle. This is extremely dangerous in case of an emergency. I either have to roll the window down to open the window from the outside or climb out of the drivers seat and use an alternate door in the car. The dealership fixed the issue the first time and advised that this has been happening to other customers as well. I will be taking my vehicle back to fix again next week. …”
NHTSA complaint #11745418, filed 2026-06“Drivers side interior door handle broken trapping driver inside unless they exit passenger side or roll down window to reach exterior handle. Toyota replaced with is having to pay saying known issue.”
NHTSA complaint #11771815, filed 2026-10“Hood shakes / flutters violently at highway speeds. Problem has persisted for the first 10,000 miles of driving and presents a safety hazard from fatigue weakening the hood to the point of failure.”
NHTSA complaint #11654891, filed 2025-04“Vehicle: Toyota Tacoma (2024 model year) Component: Factory-Installed Plastic Bed Cap Rail Covers I am reporting a recurring and potentially hazardous issue with the factory-installed plastic bed cap rail covers on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. These covers separate from the truck body, especially at the corners, during normal use. This is not caused by aftermarket accessories, but appears to result from the flawed design and attachment method. A significant number of 4th generation (2024+) Tacoma owners are experiencing similar problems with lifting and separation of these factory-installed covers. …”
