“My driver's side visor won't stay up creating a very dangerous situation when driving. In over 30 years of owning a vehicle with as much as 240,000 miles on it, I have never had this happen before. It will cost me $100 to replace it due to poor engineering on the manufacturer's part. Toyota should recall this item and offer a replacement visor.”

NHTSA complaint #10641829, filed 2014-10, 112,000 miles

“My passenger side sun visor is flopping down by itself blocking my field of view while driving. I had to replace my driver's side sun visor over a year ago because of the same issue. Toyota has apparently improved the design of the sun visor, but will not recall the old design and will gladly charge you $120 to replace it. This is a serious visibility issue that Toyota needs to repair at no cost to the customer.”

NHTSA complaint #10515174, filed 2013-06, 51,000 miles

“I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma and the sun visor will not stay up. When the problem started it would be at a 30 degree angle from the roof and when I go over a bump it drops completely down blocking my view. It just started to not stay up at all yesterday and completely swings back and forth. I had to remove it this morning before going to work and now am researching a replacement unit.”

NHTSA complaint #10382657, filed 2011-02, 118,153 miles

“At approx. 37000 miles my driver's side sun visor on my 2006 Tacoma started drooping down blocking my field of vision. The sun visor would not stay in any position and started making a cracking noise when moved. This was reported to a Toyota dealership for which they stated that it is a known design issue. The sun visor contains two plastic pieces that have been known to fail causing the sun visor to not hold in any position (up or down). …”

NHTSA complaint #10377868, filed 2011-01, 37,000 miles

“Sun visors on 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4wd, don't hold their positions especially when in use. This has occurred since truck was new. They were replaced under warranty, and continue to fail.”
