“When inspecting the leaf spring replacement from a recall, found the frame corroded to the point that it will fail. (see photo). Toyota had a recall on these frames and this truck fell under the guidelines.when I contacted Toyota they said this was an extended warranty and had expired.said they sent notification which I never received.”

NHTSA complaint #11326005, filed 2020-05, 199,000 miles

“Frame is rusting out excessively.this is a known problem on these vehicles, but Toyota says since I don't live in what they consider a cold state, I guess they've never spent a winter in nebraska they won't cover it. I feel this could potentially cause an accident if my frame sags or gives out. I feel they should expand this recall to include more states.”

NHTSA complaint #10662078, filed 2014-12, 105,000 miles

“I brought car in for routine oil change. Mechanic called me in to show me the extreme rust under the frame. It is flaking off in chunks and almost rusted through in some parts. Mechanic informed me that this was not normal and I should contact Toyota for possible recall information. I contacted Toyota, but have not heard back for over one month.”

NHTSA complaint #10548318, filed 2013-10, 100,006 miles

“Received recall notice 12/2/14 about rear springs. As of 6/24/15 no remedy for this problem. This truck is not being used due to this recall.we do not want any employee getting heart because of this problem. We need to get this truck back in service asap. We have this truck registered and can't use it.”

NHTSA complaint #10730160, filed 2015-06, 42,000 miles

“As I was driving home my truck started making a noise from the back end. When I got home I looked at the underside of the truck and both spring shackles were rusted away and holes in the frame above them. The frame is completely rusted and I am unable to drive it because it could cause an accident. I called Toyota about it and they said we apologize for the problem but we aren't going to fix it.”
